Back to the Basics with Car Covers What exactly is a car cover?
Some people will need a cover that will help protect their car from the raging rainstorms, whilst others live in drier climates, and therefore prefer help with shielding against the sun. Due the large range available on the market, there is a cover for everyone. Many people do not even realize the need for car covers, and this is a sad mistake indeed. Did you know that rain simply eats away at your cars paintwork? Evidently not, or else you car would for sure be covered! You may be wondering what is wrong with the conventional garages. Simply put – space and money. In addition not everyone has the space to build one. If they did, most people would prefer to extend their house, than build a room explicitly for their car. Car covers are also very stylish. Since the craze started, people have been manufacturing the snazziest designs possible. Covers are often made with a few seams as possible increasing the sleek design. Many companies will even give you the option of placing a logo on the bonnet of the cover. This increases individuality and ensure your car is very fashionable. They know that leaving a car outdoors unprotected is not an option. It is a recipe for disaster. Any car that is left parked outside, without any form of protection, is guaranteed to get wrecked in some way or another. The fact remains; a car that is uncovered has a shorter life expectancy. So the question remain, what form of protection to provide? Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. They must be weighed up by the individual, to see which is the better of the two for him. Garages are also very convenient for the car owner, as he always know where his car is parked, and never has to search for a space. Another advantage of garages is that they can be used by anyone.
However, the disadvantages of having a garage largely lie in the money and space involved. Garages are expensive to build as they are not merely three wall and a door. There is more to a garage, and the money mounts up. Aside from this, a lot of people simply do not have the space to build a garage. Even if they did, they would much prefer to use that space for extending the house, rather than building a room to keep a car over night. Whilst the garage may be able to protect it from the detriments of nature, and car thieves, the car is still exposed to dust and dirt, and hence will still need constant cleaning. Car covers, when not in use, can be folded up and tucked away, out of sight. They can even be stored in the trunk of the car. This is something that garages can never have – portability. Car cover are also inexpensive, and cost effective. Cover covers are a drop in the bucket compared to the expense of a garage, and they also provide excellent coverage and protection. They will be able to save the car owner hundreds of dollars over the years that would have otherwise been used for cleaning, polishing and repairs. The cover will fit the car like a glove, maximising the protection, but it means that no other car can use it. Thus, it cannot be shared amongst family and friends, and when a new car is bought, the cover needs to be changed too. Yes they will be able to protect the car from just about everything, including knocks and scrapes. However this is on a small scale, and should there be a more fierce collision, the cover will be inept at shielding the car.
Which Car Cover To Choose?
It can be hard deciding what sized car cover to buy. Not everyone realises but there are actually three sizes for car covers; universal, semi custom and custom. Universal covers will fit any car of any size (trucks and vans are a separate size altogether). No matter how big or small your car is, the universal cover will be able to cover it. This of course has its own advantages. To begin with, it is the least expensive of car covers as it can be mass produced. It also means that the cover can be shared amongst family and friends. In addition, when you update your car, there is no need to purchase a new cover as well, saving you more money. However, as with everything it has its own disadvantages too. As the universal cover will fit any car, it is not a good fit. It can very often give the impression of a baggy sheet draped over the car. Also, for larger cars, it can mean that parts of the car are sticking out and are left exposed.
The semi custom cover is one that will fit a bunch of cars that are grouped together as they are similar in size and shape. The fit is therefore much better, and more precise. It can still be shared amongst others, and may not necessarily need updating together with your next car. Semi custom covers are slightly more expensive than universal, though. Custom covers are tailor made for each and every car. The exact contours and specifications are taken into account, and mirror pockets are made to accommodate every detail. Customers are given the choice of colour and style, and very often can even choose a logo to go on the bonnet of the cover. This is by far the most classy, sleek looking type of cover, with the most perfect fit. Since it is produced uniquely for each car, it works out the most expensive. However, it is well worth the expense. Having a custom cover will actually also provide you and your car with the optimum protection. As the fit is so perfect, there is no chance for anything to sneak in. The cover will be snug against the car, shielding it from any sort of harm that may come it’s way. Custom covers also act as a safety feature. Unfortunately the streets are not safe at night, and often there are shady individuals snooping around at cars. When a car is covered properly, as is the case with custom covers, the car is not likely to be attacked as it cannot be determined whether or not the target is worth the risk.
